My Must Read Toddler Survival Guide

Toddlers are a joy, but they can also be a handful. They're constantly learning and growing, and they don't always have the best coping mechanisms for their emotions. Here are a few tips and tricks on how I get through my day with my toddler.

I’m a mom of a 3 year old and 5 month old, and I know what it’s like to feel like you’re constantly riding an emotional rollercoaster. One minute, your toddler is laughing and playing, and the next minute, they’re screaming and throwing a tantrum. It can be exhausting and frustrating, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

 

Toddlers are learning and growing at an incredible pace, and it’s our job as parents to help them navigate this journey. That’s why I’m sharing a few tips and tricks on how I get through my day with my toddler.

**1. ** Stay calm. It’s easier said than done, but it’s important to stay calm when your toddler is having a meltdown. If you get worked up, it will only make things worse. Take a deep breath, count to ten, and remind yourself that this is just a phase.

**2. ** Redirect. If your toddler is starting to get upset, try to redirect their attention. Offer them a toy, take them for a walk, or sing them a song. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery to help them calm down.

**3. ** Set limits. Toddlers need boundaries, and it’s important to set clear expectations from the start. Let them know what’s okay and what’s not okay, and be consistent with your discipline.

Toddlers are creatures of habit. They thrive on routine and predictability. That’s why creating a schedule for your toddler can be a great way to keep their life on track and help them feel secure.

A schedule doesn’t have to be rigid or inflexible. It can be as simple as a list of activities that you do with your toddler each day. For example, your schedule might look like this:

  • 7:00 AM – Wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed
  • 8:00 AM – Playtime
  • 9:00 AM – Snack
  • 10:00 AM – Story time
  • 11:00 AM – Lunch
  • 12:00 PM – Naptime
  • 3:00 PM – Wake up, snack
  • 4:00 PM – Free play
  • 5:00 PM – Dinner
  • 6:00 PM – Bathtime
  • 7:00 PM – Bedtime

Of course, this is just a sample schedule. You can adjust it to fit your toddler’s needs and interests. The important thing is to be consistent with the schedule. Once your toddler gets used to the routine, they’ll be more likely to cooperate and follow your lead.

Here are a few tips for creating a schedule for your toddler:

  • Start with a basic schedule and then add or subtract activities as needed.
  • Be flexible and allow for changes. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. That’s okay! Just be sure to get back on track as soon as possible.
  • Make the schedule fun! Include activities that your toddler enjoys.

My list of activities my toddler can’t get enough of:

  • Get your toddler involved in creating the schedule. This will help them feel more invested in it and more likely to follow it.

A schedule can be a great way to keep your toddler’s life on track and help them feel secure. So give it a try! You may be surprised at how well it works.

**4. ** Be patient. Toddlers are still learning, and they’re going to make mistakes. It’s important to be patient with them and help them learn from their mistakes.

**5. ** Enjoy the ride. Toddlers are a lot of work, but they’re also a lot of fun. Make sure to take some time each day to enjoy their company. Play with them, read to them, and just cuddle up with them. These are the moments you’ll cherish forever.
